Building a charcuterie board can be very simple. Start with a wooden cutting board, large platter or a small plate depending on the size of the group you are serving. Then, add different types of cheeses, meats, crackers, fruit and dips. Most of these can be found at your local grocery store in the deli, produce and cheese departments. Other specialty grocery stores like Whole Foods are also fun places to look for more charcuterie board ideas.

Here are some ideas of what to include on your charcuterie board:

  • Soft cheeses: feta cheese, brie cheese, ricotta, burrata, blue cheese, goat cheese
  • Hard cheeses: parmesan cheese, cheddar cheese, pecorino, gruyere

  • Fresh fruit: fresh figs, grapes, berries (I like to stick with fresh seasonal fruit so they are ripe)

  • Other: kalamata olives, spanish olives, garlic stuffed olives, dried fruit such as apricots, fresh cut vegetables such as cucumbers and carrots

When to Serve a Charcuterie Board

Charcuterie boards are very versatile can be served for many different occasions. Make one just for the family as a snack, for a girls night, as an appetizer for a crowd. We love to make charcuterie boards for a snack for the family because it is the easiest way to get our kids to eat a variety of healthy foods and extra protein. Also, it gives us creative ways to use up some random things leftover in our refrigerator all at one time.
