Easy Homemade Meat Sauce

Simple homemade meat sauce perfect for pasta, lasagna or sandwiches!


  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 3-5 cloves of garlic, chopped
  • 1 pounds ground chicken
  • 25 oz plain tomato sauce (it should only have one ingredient)
  • 6 oz roasted red peppers, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning


  1. Heat oil in a large sauce pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook until softened, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add garlic and cook additional 3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Add ground chicken and cook through. Break into small pieces as it cooks.
  5. Add sauce, peppers, and seasonings. Simmer over low heat for at least 20 minutes up to 1 hour.
  6. Serve and enjoy!
  7. Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Freeze for up to 2 months.


Beef, turkey or sausage will work well too in place of the chicken!
