How to Pan Fry Pork Chops

Pan frying pork chops can be easier that it seems with a few tips! To start with this recipe be sure your pork chops are 3/4 to 1 inch thick so they do not cook too quickly and dry out. Next, in a small bowl combine the breadcrumbs with seasoning and stir well. In another small bowl combine the egg and water and whisk well.

Next, place a skillet (one with higher sides such as a cast iron skillet) on the stove and heat over medium heat. Once warm, add oil. There should be enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan plus come up about 1/4 inch. Wait until the oil is hot enough before breading the pork chops. You can tell the oil is hot enough when it looks like it is moving slightly. Waiting until the oil is hot enough will keep the pork chops from absorbing a lot of oil. Plus the breading will be extra crispy!

Once the oil is hot, dip the pork chops in the egg mixture and then the breadcrumb mixture. Be sure to coat well with breadcrumbs. Very carefully place the pork chops into the oil to avoid splattering. Cook for 8-9 minutes on one side and then carefully flip. Breading should be a deep golden brown and crispy on the first side.

Cook another 8-9 minutes on the second side and then use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Continue to cook pork chops until they reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees. The total cooking time should be between 16-22 minutes depending on how thick the pork chops are.

Once cooked through, remove from pan and let sit on a plate covered in paper towels to drain off any excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.

Can these pork chops be made gluten free?

Yes! Replace the breadcrumbs with your favorite gluten free brand.

Do I need to use vegetable oil?

Vegetable oil has a very high smoke point and will not burn while pan frying which is why it is recommended for this recipe. Olive oil should not be used as it has a lower smoke point and will burn before the pork chops are cooked through.

These Easy Pan Fried Boneless Pork Chops are a delicious main course. They have a crunchy breading that keeps these pork chops super moist.

  • 4 boneless pork chops (about 3/4 inch to 1 inch thick)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (not panko)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp water
  • vegetable oil for frying

  1. In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs and spices. Stir well.
  2. In another small bowl, combine egg and water and whisk until well combined.
  3. Heat a large frying pan over medium heat. Once pan is warm, add oil to cover bottom of pan and come up about 1/4 - 1/3 inch and let it heat up. You can tell the oil is hot when it looks like it's moving.
  4. When oil is hot, dip pork chops in egg mixture to coat.
  5. Then, dip pork chops in breadcrumbs and coat well.
  6. Carefully place breaded pork chops in hot oil.
  7. Let cook for 8-9 minutes.
  8. Turn pork chops and let cook an additional 8-9 minutes. Using a meat thermometer check internal temperature after 8 minutes. Internal temperature should reach 160 degrees before removing the pork chops from the heat. Continue to cook until that temperature is reached. This may take an extra 3-5 minutes depending on the thickness of the pork chops.
  9. Once pork chops reach 160 degrees, remove from heat and rest on a paper towel over a plate to drain some of the oil for 2 minutes then serve.

Be sure oil is hot before adding pork chops. This will ensure that the pork chops do not absorb a lot of oil while cooking and that the breading becomes crispy.
