How to Pan Fry Pork Chops
Pan frying pork chops can be easier that it seems with a few tips! To start with this recipe be sure your pork chops are 3/4 to 1 inch thick so they do not cook too quickly and dry out. Next, in a small bowl combine the breadcrumbs with seasoning and stir well. In another small bowl combine the egg and water and whisk well.
Next, place a skillet (one with higher sides such as a cast iron skillet) on the stove and heat over medium heat. Once warm, add oil. There should be enough oil to cover the bottom of the pan plus come up about 1/4 inch. Wait until the oil is hot enough before breading the pork chops. You can tell the oil is hot enough when it looks like it is moving slightly. Waiting until the oil is hot enough will keep the pork chops from absorbing a lot of oil. Plus the breading will be extra crispy!
Once the oil is hot, dip the pork chops in the egg mixture and then the breadcrumb mixture. Be sure to coat well with breadcrumbs. Very carefully place the pork chops into the oil to avoid splattering. Cook for 8-9 minutes on one side and then carefully flip. Breading should be a deep golden brown and crispy on the first side.
Cook another 8-9 minutes on the second side and then use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature. Continue to cook pork chops until they reach an internal temperature of 160 degrees. The total cooking time should be between 16-22 minutes depending on how thick the pork chops are.
Once cooked through, remove from pan and let sit on a plate covered in paper towels to drain off any excess oil. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
